Merry Meet and Merry Be....Let the God's Light shine on Thee
Decorate the altar with sheafs of wheat, barley, rye,fruit,bread.
Arrange the altar, light your candles and censer, and cast circle.
Recite a blessing chant, and invoke the god/goddess.
Stand before the altar and say these or similar words;
Now is the time of the First Harvest,
when the abundance of nature gives of itself
so that we might have fruit and grain abundant.
O God of the ripening fields, Lord of the Grain,
Let me/us feel of your sacrifice as you
as you prepare to yield to the sickle of the
Goddess,that You may offered up for our survival.
O Goddess of the Dark Moon,
teach me/us the secrets of rebirth
as the sun loses it's strength and the nights grow cold.
Rub the head of the sheaf of grain so that the grain falls onto the altar. Lifting up the piece of fruit, biteit savor it's flavor, pass it around (if in group) and say the following or similar words.
I partake of the first harvest, mixing it's energies
with mine that I may continue my quest for the starry
wisdom of perfection.
O Lady of the Moon and Lord of the Sun,
gracious ones before Whom the stars halt their courses
I/We offer my/our thanks for the continuing fertility of the Earth.
May the nodding grain loose its seeds to be buried in
the Mother's breast, ensuring rebirth in the warmth
of the coming spring.
